Modern Blue & Gray New York Wedding
This wedding from Kelly Williams, Photographer looks like it was hella fun! These two lovebirds totally crack us up! They look like they had an absolute blast! Seriously though, we’re kind of obsessed with this bold color scheme! LOVE!
Aldrin and Mike met 16 years ago in college at Oakland University. Once the two started dating, they became inseparable. “We moved to New York in 2000 and felt like this could be our home for the rest of our lives,” says Mike. “People always asked us if we were ever going to have a wedding ceremony. We made a decision to wait for marriage to become legal in New York State before we had a ceremony. We knew we wanted to be together forever, but we wanted the legal rights that come with our state recognizing our marriage.” Sure enough, Aldrin and Mike were at home in front of the TV on July 24, 2011 watching the New York Senate pass the bill to approve same sex marriage then they decided it was time to get married!
Every detail of their intimate wedding was designed and coordinated by Aldrin and Mike. The couple focused on including unique details that reflected their simple, modern tastes. From customized printing to the couple’s bespoke suits, no detail went overlooked. Of particular note are the ceremony rituals, which included both a hand-etched glass cover for their unity candle, as well as the couple melting wax to be used as a sealant for their anniversary wine bottles. Aldrin’s father, who was ill and had to remain at home (in Michigan), was still present at the wedding via an internet link (Skype) over an iPad.
The menu for the reception reflected both Aldrin and Mike’s cultural ties with a full roasted pig to show Aldrin’s Filipino roots, and Latin food to illustrate Mike’s ancestry. Lime granita was served to guests in a wedge of lime in between the appetizer and the main course as a palate cleanser.
