Mountaintop Picnic Engagement
Wow! It’s no secret that we love picnic sessions but this session from Kim Payant Photography is gorgeous! You just can’t beat that view!
“Last July, I worked with Sharon from Naturally Chic to create a “cute romantic mountain picnic e-session” for one of my couple that are getting married in 2015! This shoot is quite unique because it happened during the forest fires and it was one of the worst days for visibility in the mountains. We still went for it because it creates a surreal environment. The mountains look like they were painted in the background because it was so smokey. I started the shoot with photos of just the couple having fun and being romantic together. We did some photos by the lake and then in an open field filled with daisies. The color palette of white and blues went really well with the daisies. We finished the shoot on a rocky beach by Minnewanka Lake where they were able to sit down and enjoyed their personalized picnic created by Sharon from Naturally Chic. Here’s what Sharon had to say about her ideas for the picnic.
Sharon: I had being thinking about a romantic picnic in the mountains for some time and was thrilled when Kim suggested that we create one for Breanne and Tristan. I had always thought that the rocky beach overlooking Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park would be the perfect spot for a romantic picnic for two.
Instead of using a traditional picnic basket, I wanted to use something more sturdy, something you could toss in the back of your vehicle and fill it with food before hitting the mountains. Instead, I created a personalized picnic crate for functionality but also for a modern feel (Kim and I also thought it could make for a cute card box at their wedding too). We filled it with quintessential picnic food, sandwiches, salad in a jar, fresh fruit and of course local favorites such as Grizzly Paw sodas and chocolate “bear’s paws”. We also used wood cutlery and reusable plates to reduce waste. Finally, I made the couple a wood cutting board and personalized it with their names and wedding date. Not only could this be used for the picnic, but hopefully something they could use in their home after the wedding! Their color palette was white, blues and hints of reds.
Kim: Breanne and Tristan will say their “I do’s” in Canmore on August 29th, 2015. They were such a fun couple to photograph! Even if it wasn’t the best day to see the mountains, they still went for it and they know that their pictures turned out quite unique for that reason! During the session, we even had a little chimpmunk come close to them, it was pretty funny! I really like this shoot becaus the smoke from the forest fires created a completely different look for the mountains. I loved all the details created by Sharon, she is sooo talented. The couple really enjoyed their homemade limonade and picnic. Sharon thought of everything and everything was well prepared and well presented!”
